The state of Nebraska basketball: Part II

Happy Valentine's Day, unless your name is Doc Sadler...

I don’t know how else to say it. Is Tom Osborne going to fire Doc Sadler before the final game of the season, or after the season, or somehow not at all? Will it be as awkward as I imagine it? Too many questions…
To fire Doc, or not to fire Doc…Doc Sadler follows all the principles of Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne, he does what he has to without bewildering players, he lives his life somewhat spiritually, and he tries his best to be a leader. There is one little thing he doesn’t do though, win. Okay he also doesn’t recruit. Read More...

I have never done free writing while drunk and angry. This is the first, and I want to see what happens. There will by typos, there will be other mistakes, it will probably be completely random and unstructured, but I want to see what happens. I am going to edit nothing, and I will post it. I got a Sam Adams “Variety” Pack at the Utah Liqour store tonight. I am currently on number 6…Read More...

Was there an NBA Offseason? And where will Kenyon Martin end up?
by Andrew Roth
December 22nd

I wanted to write about the offseason transactions and rate the best transactions, but this was one of the worst offseasons ever in the NBA. Players resigned with their teams, most of the trades came from the draft, and the Celtics got nothing. The Los Angeles Clippers had a better offseason than the Celtics, the Clippers.
There was no Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to the Celtics, or Amar’e to the Knicks, or Chris Bosh and Lebron going to Miami. The best transaction was that there was no transaction with David Stern stupidly taking Chris Paul away from the Lakers. Teams had little time to get free agents to their rosters, China was a bitch, and teams signed veterans who have been YMCA All Stars the last couple of years. There also aren’t really any good free agents left that are going to change a team. Kenyon Martin just got out of China deal, and he is the top free agent to go after...Read More
Why cant the Timberwolves be the Thunder?
by Mike Vamosi
December 20th, 2011

Once upon a time the Seattle Supersonics were better than the Minnesota Timberwolves, then the Wolves drafted Kevin Garnett and that organization went to the playoffs several times plus a conference finals. Now the Oklahoma City Thunder (Zombie Sonics) have lapped Minnesota again and it might last that way for awhile.
Let’s look at the two teams who due to the NBA not addressing the move from Seattle to OKC leaves these two teams in the same division. The Thunder have a great scorer in Kevin Durant an okay point guard in Russell Westbrook plus several other pieces which have lead to much regular and postseason success, this will continue going forward...Read More
How to make watching hockey at home fun: ADD DRINKING
by Andrew Roth
December 19th, 2011
Hockey is the ultimate small market sport as it hides in the shadows of the NBA even during a NBA lockout. I love going to hockey games, but with two intermissions and difficulty to see the puck, it is more than difficult to watch a hockey game on television.
I still remember the first hockey game I went to. It was University of Nebraska at Omaha versus Mercyhurst University at Qwest Center Omaha (now CenturyLink Center Omaha but I will always refer to this building as the Qwest Center). I wanted to go because UNO students got in free with their university ID card, and I didn't want to be the dude that never went while I had the chance to go for free and never got the experience...Read More

Beating the Green Bay Packers and can it be done?
by Mike Vamosi
December 16th, 2011

The Green Bay Packers are currently the best thing going in the world of sports, go ahead and look it prove me wrong! Ok, the Packers probably are being overshadowed by Tebowmania which I’m sure Green Bay is ok alright with. Currently the defending champions have won 19-straight games including the playoffs and show no sign of slowing up.
This weekend will be the weekend that it happens and before I tell you why I’ll state that I’m a Kansas City Chiefs fan and feel that Arrowhead is the best environment in the National Football League. Sure the reality is that Arrowhead will have a lot more green and gold in the stands over red and gold but that happened a few weeks ago when the Steelers came to KC...Read More
The Days of Tim Tebow
by Andrew Roth
December 14th, 2001

April 22nd, 2010- I’m sitting at a bar with a friend, who is there because he thinks the bartendress working for tips wants to bone him, and we are watching the NFL Draft. Chugging down a not so cold Coors Light, the 25th pick comes from Denver. Tim Tebow’s name is announced and a collective “What the Fuck” comes from everyone in the bar.
No one wanted or expected Tim Tebow (especially Jimmy Clausen) to be drafted in the first round, even Tebow was skeptical. Tebow became a collection of Denver Broncos plot ideas, they only drafted him to sell jerseys, they only drafted him for a trading card to Miami or Jacksonville, the Broncos GM must go to the same church as Tebow, and so on...Read More
The NBA Lockout: Written as if we lived in a world where Glenn Beck was a Sports Columnist
by Andrew Roth

You know what separates me from other Sports Columnists, I ask questions. But Glenn, Stephen A. Smith asks questions every day. Okay, but I ask the really tough questions. Oh but Glenn, Chris Broussard asks some pretty tough questions. Well I ask the questions no one else would ever ask. Um…Glenn, Dan Patrick asks people questions that no one else would ever ask. Okay okay, but I ask the serious hard hitting questions. Well excuse me Glenn, Bill Simmons asks some pretty hard hitting questions. Okay well you know what, I ask questions but never physically to the person I am intending to have answer the question...Read More
